Oswego, Illinois slated for Growth

Recently we read two articles discussing two DIFFERENT commercial developments proposed in Oswego. One discussed changes to the riverfront/downtown area, while the other focused on a 534.6 acre MEGA mixed-use/residential development. Read on for more information on both proposed developments.

Many towns in the Chicagoland area benefit from being a riverfront town. And many of those towns are really focusing on this amenity by building "attractions" around the river. Aurora's RiverEdge Music Park venue, Yorkville's Marge Cline Whitewater Kayak Course, and St. Charles' First Street Development are just some of the Chicagoland towns taking advantage of the river. When people come to experience these venues/attractions, they are likely to stay for shopping and dining, which further benefits the local economy. Oswego sees this opportunity and has enlisted the help of a consultant. Preliminary plans show multiple 3 or 4 story mixed use developments and a nature trail.
The other very exciting proposal is claimed to be the largest mixed-use development in Northeastern Illinois...a 534.6 acre development comprised of 1400-1600 housing units and 30 acres of commercial use along Rt. 30 and Wolf's Crossing. Oswego Village Administrator Steve Jones discusses how Oswego has prospered during the recession, "Oswego's growth never stopped during the recession, it just slowed down. It is not surprising that our quality of life, physical location, great schools and housing values continue to attract new residents."
